MY STORY

I was born in Dallas, TX and moved around until my parents settled, of all places, in a small Dutch town called Pella in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa.  I was 10 years old.  It was there that I grew up and came to faith in a thriving Church.  I first experienced Jesus in a real and personal way when I was 14 at a Christian sports camp called Kanakuk in Branson, Missouri.  I remained heavily involved in the Church youth group but slowly let my newfound faith decay throughout the remaining years of high school.  I left for college with a resolve to recommit my ways to the Lord, and he was faithful to respond to me with kindness and began to work in me through the community, experiences, and leadership in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Central College.  My internal sense of ‘call’ to ministry and missions began on a two-week trip to Mexico with IV just after my freshmen year of college.  This was fostered by studying abroad in Spain, and deepened and confirmed at Urbana 2003.  As a result of Urbana 03, I went on short-term mission trips to Thailand, Australia, India, Nepal, Hawaii, and Indonesia.  It’s no coincidence that I now find myself on staff with the ministry that most profoundly shaped me, working specifically with Urbana, an event that played a major role in my development.  I am humbled to look at the years past and see his providence.
